Mobile phones are now an essential component of travel especially when it comes to snapshots, travel apps, quick Internet connectivity etc. In this post we review the Tecno Camon C5 a flagship phone from Tecno.

Let’s start with the design. It comes in attractive colors (Midnight Black, Dark Blue, Amber Gold, Oyster White) has a shrunken frame with a plastic but metallic finish that gives it a premium look. With dimensions of 137.5 mm x 69.3 mm x 8.6 mm the light nature of the chassis is very nice, something the brand should be lauded for. The phone has an audio jack, and other regular ports conveniently located around it.

Overall in terms of aesthetics, the phone is very impressive.

The 5 inch display is pretty decent especially for travelers like me who are constantly on social media. The display is also clear and crisp especially the contrast between the whites against pure blacks, meaning even dark scenes are shown off perfectly. I must add the outdoor visibility is also pretty decent.

Tecno Camon C5 runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop which I must admit comes with amazing UI (User interface)

At 2500 mAh, battery life on the Camon C5 borders is pretty decent in my experience even with heavy usage you’ll comfortably get through a day. With additional power saving apps such as Ultra power you can easily squeeze in a couple of days.

The internet connectivity, (in my experience) has also been great and speedy and does support fast downloads over Wi-Fi and 4G while also maintaining a strong connection.

Finally let’s get to the camera – supposedly the major highlight of the phone. The 8MP sounds unimpressive with some big brand phones having megapixel counts of up to 21MP (I understand Nokia’s have a 43MP PureView camera phone).

However, we should not confuse quality over megapixel numbers, and while some phones have very impressive megapixels, there’s no reason to think that decent pictures can’t be grabbed from an 8MP sensor.

So how does the Tecno Camon C5 fare here? Well, the main talking point is Focus Pixels, additional elements that work out where light is actually coming from, and so they can provide directional information to the camera to focus more quickly. This, combined with the lower MP count (which makes the task of taking a photo less onerous on the sensor) improves snapping speed.

A front camera for selfies and video conferencing is also available.  Other camera features include video, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama.

As they say the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I decided to take a stroll around my neighborhood while taking snapshots with the Tecno Camon C5. Check them out below and be the judge

Well, I must say in the Camon C5, Tecno has a pretty decent phone, one that can definitely give the major brands a run for their money. And at ksh 13 500 (USD 130) an unbeatable offer to boot!
