When it comes to Watamu I can never say enough, it is my perfect destination wherever and whenever I need a break from my hectic life.  Watamu is a small town located on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya, known for its wonderful white sand beach. One of the reasons I love Watamu is the tranquility and laid back culture which does wonders for a weary soul.

Here are some of the pictures and reasons I love Watamu, you can also read a previous post on Watamu here.

I love Watamu for for its long (mostly) deserted sugar white sandy beaches

The extreme low tides, waters recant up to a mile at different times of the day. You can walk to the coral reef Islands which are a few meters from the beach.

One of my favorite moments are the mornings and evenings where I get to enjoy the magical sunrise and sunsets.

I love Watamu too, it is not crowded unlike the beaches in Mombasa,so you can enjoy some privacy. Simply one of the best beaches along the Kenyan coast.

Until I get my travel groove on in a few years you won’t see many travel posts from me. But, the biggest group I follow are travel bloggers and I love them and their posts for many reasons. Taking me on whimsical journeys to another place. Making a note if I may want to visit there. I’m a Bing Maps freak and I enjoy looking up all of the places everyone goes to on satellite. I like looking at the menus of restaurants and hotels sites too. True story…like tonight…when I’m at work I often leave your posts up and use your pics as “wallpaper”. Thank you for that! I keep meaning to ask you. What camera and lens do you two use, Rachel? This was amazing and so was the link to the other post as well! 🙂

Thanks a lot Mike, such encouraging words! I currently use a point and shoot Sony DSC TX55 or in the case of this post, I used my brother’s Olympus TG-830. Some photos like the ones of Lake Nakuru wildlife, I was given by the Kenya Wildlife Service.

Hope you get your travel groove soon 🙂

Yeah, I’ve always wondered what camera you use… as asked above.

It’s obvious why you like Watamu, Rachel. It’s absolutely beautiful and looks pretty empty.

I love your sunrise and sunset photos but really, all your photos are fabulous. I see Watamu isn’t that far from Mombassa so I’m definitely going to put it on my list for when I make it to Kenya, hopefully soon.

Thanks for the intro to a new place!

Wow..what a gorgeous place. I don’t think I’d want to leave if I ever make it to Watamu. I don’t see many travel posts of the Indian Ocean so this was such a welcome read. Beautiful photos and always adore your jump shots 🙂

No wonder you like Watamu. It’s gorgeous! That water is so calm and blue, and the sand looks soft. I want to go there right now, and I’m saying this as a person who has a beach right outside her own door.
