Sieku Glamping is a rustic, modern-based luxury camp perched atop a hill facing the expansive Borana conservancy in Laikipia. Tucked right between the landscapes from Mount Kenya to Lossos to the farthest ends at the Mukogodo forest, this fine glamping experience is set on a 33 acre farm and approximately 3.5 to 4 hours away from the capital city, Nairobi.

There is something about the first time you arrive at Sieku, from the gate to the parking area to the tents, it all feels like you have finally achieved your escape mission from the busy city life.

The welcome from the staff is comparable to non-other. Guests are familiarized with the camping ground as tables are set. Warning – the first time you glance at the camp will have you forget you were even hungry.

The afternoon was spent whiling away at the hammock while soaking in the view. I’d could do this all day.

Sundowner time!

Never have I found a sun-downer so difficult to shoot. One moment you want to stare at it and the next you realize you have to capture it before it quickly disappears.

In the evening one can choose to lounge by the fireplace outside or the newly set up wooden cabin.

Nights, however magical can get pretty chilly so it is advisable to carry heavy clothing.

The strong point to Sieku Glamping is the attention to detail. Ranging from the chef’s meticulous preparation of the dishes to the intricate additions in the tents, Sieku is surely an experience to savor. You have to give it to Sieku when it comes to its eco-friendly initiative. Visitors leave with all non-bio degradable waste. Any used water is collected and used for the plants around the camp. Another surprising but fascinating element is their beautifully crafted long drop loos and outdoor bath areas with 20 litre shower bags.  The shower experience was my number experience at Sieku, savoring endless views whilst butt naked, life is indeed meant for such moments.

Breakfast is served either at any of the designated spots in the camp or a bush breakfast can be arranged at the topmost hill on Mukogodo forest. It is advisable to go with a 4 by 4 vehicle to be able to navigate through the rough and rutted roads. But you can always count on the view, definitely worth the gruelling journey to the top.

Sieku is entirely powered by solar which is not only environmentally conscious but essential when it comes to charging phones, cameras, batteries and other electronic devices. This is available in the new mess tent.

Solar lamps are dotted all over the camp to provide lighting at night.

What to do at Sieku

  1. Drive to Mukogodo forest and enjoy a sundowner surrounded by panoramic views of Lewa, Mount Ololokwe and the Mathews Range.
  2. Visit the Ngare Ndare forest famous for its natural turquoise pools and the longest canopy walk in East Africa.
  3. Free guided bush walks
  4. For visitors staying longer, one can visit the attractions around Nanyuki or get down into Buffalo Springs, Shaba and Samburu national parks
  5. Relax and enjoy the dreamy hot afternoons at Sieku.

Booking and Costs

For the experience not comparable to any other, Sieku is pretty affordable and worth all your dime

Weekdays: 5500/- per double per night ($55) self-catering

Weekends: 6500/- per double per night ($65) self-catering

For each booking there is a 1700/- ($17) one time cleaning fee.

The great people at Sieku are also pretty flexible on costs for larger groups.

You can reach them directly on siekureservations@gmail.com, call +254 718 929 022 or book online.

Optional Chef: 4000/- per day- Whether for one person or a group. But I would recommend experiencing this as a group. The glamp comfortably fits 20.

Sieku works on an exclusive basis so whether you’re a group of 2 or 14, you have the place ALL to yourselves.

Sieku is now a super-host on Airbnb and I’m not surprised. Rob (Owner) is one of the most hospitable and helpful hosts I have ever spoken to. He was available from Day 1 and prepped us on how to get there, what to bring and what to do whilst there. Also, the Sieku staff were extra friendly and made our stay absolutely comfortable.

Anyways, that’s all. Photos cannot do Sieku the justice it deserves. Truly an experience to remember

I can’t wait to go back!!!!
