Turnup.travel just concluded another epic 24-hour Nairobi Instagram Tour themed “New Perspectives”. The tour was organized in partnership with Peri-Peri Go and was aimed at capturing the diverse and different facets of the city, through the lenses of local content creators and expats living in Nairobi. In this edition, we teamed up with AVIC International’s Global Trade Center (GTC) for sunrise photography and a cocktail in the evening – setting the stage for an unforgettable 24-hour top-of-the-world experience.

Nairobi, as a crucial port and aviation hub linking the rest of Africa and the world, is the home base for Fortune 500 firms, a vibrant creative, fintech & startup scene. The 184 meter 3A PLUS office tower upon completion will be the tallest in East Africa

Among the highlights of the trip was witnessing a spectacular Nairobi sunrise atop the main GTC tower. We then had breakfast at Yuanzhiyuan Restaurant in Kileleshwa followed by a tour of the Nairobi National Museum before proceeding for lunch at the Pan Asian Yao. Chef Rahul of The Good Earth Group had prepared beef wonton mango salad, basil chicken wings, and aubergine crisp for starters, hot and sour soup in veg and chicken option then topped by dry chili beef, hot garlic chicken, ma Po tofu, Garlic Pok choy, vegetable rice and vegetable noodle. The climax of the lunch was the date pancake and vanilla ice cream for the dessert.

We spent the afternoon at the same venue for a session of martial arts and learning calligraphy with Master Li Mingliang who is the 20th generation Chen style Taiji martial arts instructor and disciple of Grandmaster Zhu since the 1990s. Taiji is based on the theory that all things have a way of balancing themselves through the laws of Yin and Yang. This is a recognition that nothing can exist without its exact opposite.  Taijiquan, created 500 years ago by Chen Wangting, is imbued with the concepts of Chinese medicine and Taoism, spawning a unique approach to martial art training that seeks to balance the forces of the body and mind.

Just before nightfall, we headed back to the GTC to celebrate and share Nairobi’s colorful nightlife at the grand cocktail party at the city’s largest private club – the 3,181 m2 GTC CLUB. The GTC (Global Trade Center) is East Africa’s first ultra-premium city complex, consists of a cluster of skyscrapers comprising the 184-meter landmark Office Tower, a luxury 5-star hotel JW Marriott, a 116 meter GTC Executive Residence and a boutique mall. This facility provides Nairobi’s emerging middle class with a premium, high quality, convenient and safe one-stop working and living complex while setting a new building height record that is redefining the city’s skyline and also enormously boosts the city’s profile.
